How To Wearing The High Heels You LOVE– Without The Pain You haaate!

Let me guess– you got all glitz and glammed- maybe a date night with your honey or maybe a girls night on the town– either way, you were rocking your hottest heels, ready to own the night– and yet you ended up hobbling your way back to the car.

What went wrong? –Your shoes!

Sure they looked cute but they were all wrong. Drastically wrong. Painfully wrong.

I call cute shoes that have this effect, “sitting shoes”. If they’re perfect for my outfit and I know I will be sitting all night, sure break em’ out. But if I am on my feet? dancing? Nope. Not happening.

We ladies all have this love-hate relationship with our high heel collection because our shoes hold a lot of power. They can either make us feel like J-lo ready to hit the dance floor… oooor… they can totally ruin our night (and our feet).

Now while high heels will never be as comfy as our Chucks or Nikes, and here’s no magic bullet-answer because everyone’s foot is arched and shaped differently, there are ways we can all try to make our heels more comfortable and tolerable. #JustKeepinItReal 😉

How To Walk In Heels Without Pain

Say Sayonara to the days of keeping bandaids in your purse to prevent toe and heel injuries. Below are some tips and tricks to finding wearable-danceable-hot heels, that won’t have your dogs barking quite as loudly at the end of the day (or night).

^^ These are my favorite heels by the way ^^

CHOOSE THE PERFECT HEEL FOR YOUR ARCH

Soles

It probably goes without saying, but the more padding the better, which is why thick wedges will always be more comfortable than non-wedge heelseven if the wedge heel is taller than the non-wedge heel.

Heel

It’s all about placement and chunkiness. For comfort (and balance) you want the heels of your shoes a little chunky and  planted directly centered below your own heel. Shoes with heels that are placed directly in the back of your heel is always t-r-o-u-b-le.

Security!

If you can slip into the shoe, you can likely slip out of it too– and that does not make for comfortable walking, my friend. When possible always look for a heel with some security on top– straps, buckles, lace ups– all win, win, win.

Insert Comfort

If your heel is not a wedge, has a thin sole, or just need more arch support in general, gel inserts, foot petals or moleskin just might be your magic answer to how to wear high heels comfortably!

HACK IT

If you’re set on a pair of shoes that you already have or you need to take some extra steps to achieve your comfort, below are 3 awesome heel hacks you can try.

The first is my favorite!

Magic Tape

According WhoWhatWear.com

“Tape your third and fourth toes (counting from the big toe) together—we recommend nude medical tape for a low-profile look, but Scotch tape works in a pinch—to alleviate pain in the ball of your foot. Sound crazy? Here’s the reasoning: there’s a nerve that splits between those two toes, which causes pain when pressure is put upon it (a.k.a. when you wear heels). The tape removes strain on the nerve, allowing you to dance the night away.”

Freeze And Stretch

If you have a pair of shoes that are a little too narrow in the front, fill a ziplock baggie with water, place the baggie in the toe of your shoe and then place your shoe in the freezer.

Sacrifice some height

A lot of people don’t know this, but often you can go to a local shoe shop and have them cut down up to 1 inch on your heel! Usually an inch is the max they can trim without messing with the arch and making it more uncomfortable but, an inch can definitely make a big difference in comfort.
