Paint It Beige

Green.

My kitchen is green. Even typing that doesn’t feel right. Yet, I did agree on it.

My poor husband spent his entire Sunday painting it… “livable green”. The color I agreed on.  And as I type this, I have painters painting it over beige, because contrary to it’s name, I did not in fact find it… livable.

It is the same beige that is in our foyer and dining room, and a shade just slightly lighter than the beige in our bedroom.

Beige because since moving into our new home, colors have started to make me stabby.

Our home has a very open floor plan. From the kitchen you can basically see the colors in every other room on the main floor, so it needs to all flow. And while I love decorating, making paint colors flow? It makes my head hurt, you guys. Paint.

It sounds completely ridiculous and slightly bratty, but with every decision we have to make to fill this house, I start to miss our old home. Yes, I sit here, in our dream house and get nostalgic… over paint colors.

It’s not the paint colors though. It’s how that house made me feel when we left it. I was comfortable there. There weren’t empty rooms on the first floor. There were pictures on the walls (that we effortlessly colored by the way). We were settled and when we left, every inch of that house had our fingerprints all over it. It was home. Our home.

It’s not that I don’t love this house. I do. It’s just that some days this empty canvas seems a bit overwhelming.

I tell myself that I should be focusing on baby steps– one room at a time. And then 5 minutes later, I find myself trying to do it all at once – which by the way, is not only not recommended. It’s not effective.

We spent 2 hours looking at curtains last weekend. T W O hours, you guys!! …Because I wanted to get curtains for 3 different (still unfinished) rooms. And then Tuesday, I returned every single one we purchased– E V E R Y   O N E!  I wish I were kidding.

I know that the reality is that it took years to make our old house that “perfect cozy” it felt when we left and I know we will eventually get to that place here as well.  I know this, but right now? At this very moment? Paint swatches are making my head spin.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to pour myself a glass bottle of wine because one of our painters just informed me that our beige foyer looks pink to him.
