Fashion week may be over, but the buzz about fall’s latest trends has only just begun! So I thought it would be fun to do another 3 part style series – this time discussing some of the hottest trends we’ll be seeing this fall.
When asked about the hot trends for fall at the Fashion Forward Conference, Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch gave everyone some unexpected advice that I LOVED.
He said “Don’t follow the trends! Do what feels right”.
GASP! …. Blasphemy! … but not really.
He went on to say how what the fashion industry deems as the hot trends, are not always made for everyone and the most important thing is feeling good and loving what you’re wearing.
When you feel your best you look your best has always been my moto and so I loved hearing this come from Phillip (who by the way has styled Halle Berry for the Oscars, and is also the famed stylist who had to deal with the whole LiLo dress cutting fiasco earlier this year! – remember that one?)
Truer words have never been spoken, so I wanted to share it before we kicked off this series.

Here is how our series will work. Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week, I will be discussing fall trends. Each post will include 2 trends and some examples. Feel free to weigh in!
Today we are discussing 2 of my favorites– leather and dressy sweats. I thought I’d pair these two in one post because they can really go hand in hand.
Leather is ev.ery.where. I love it– But leather is tricky. For me, my natural frame usually fits a size 8 or 10 but is still over all curvy. I was not blessed with legs that go on forever. I have hips and thighs and all that jazz. So leather leggings, and tight leather dresses… probably not going to work for me.
However, Nicole from Mom Trends on the other hand rocked this super fab Maggy London Faux Leather Laser Cut dress on the Fashion Forward runway the other day and it looked 10 times better on her than it looked on the website model!
Try it all and see what works best for you- and if you feel good in it, flaunt it my friends!
The good news is, if you are a leather lover there are SO many ways you can rock this trend no matter your shape or size. There are tons of examples of “leather detailing” or pops of leather being seen in the stores.
(Minus) The Leather Sleeves Tee, Express $29.99
Lovers + Friends for REVOLVE Vegan Leather Tee, Revolve Clothing $78
Aqua Tee Faux Leather, Bloomingdales
The “How I love Thee” dress that I recently posted about from Bloomies (Yes, I’m still talking about it. My birthday is next month. Just sayin’ ::cough:: James! ::Cough::) was mixed with a soft cotton, rouching and just a small panel of leather- I totally rocked that dress with a bump and it was BEYOND comfortable.
(It’s since gone on sale by the way. Now $189 on Zappos. I just need it to come down a liiiiiiitle bit more…. and by little I mean maybe another 50%)
Comfort and style all meshed in one. Though a little hard to pull off for maternity looks, this trend is style heaven in my book… {tosses out yoga pants}.
This year you can wear sweatpants and sweatshirts accented with studs, satin, leather and even paired with heels to achieve a polished look for the day. It’s every woman’s dream- no?
Clu Ruffled Sweatshirt, ShopBop $187
Pencey Fencing Sweatshirt, ShopBop $42
Studded Graphic Sweatshirt, Express $49.99
(PS- doesn’t this sweatshirt get Katy Perry’s ROAR stuck in your head?…no? just me?)
Mercer French Terry Sweatpants with leather detail, ShopBop– $110
Elliot Animal Print Sweat Pants, Nordstrom $148

I don't always follow a trend, especially like you say if it doesn't 'fit' my style, but I'm absolutely loving these two! I love how dressy you can make and versatile the pieces are for lunching with girlfriends, night's out, and even hauling kids around.
YOU ARE VAVAVOOM!!!!!!
You look gorg and I covet that animal print pair. Headed to Target today to try on the Lim ones! :)
So happy that leather is back in! Can't wait to layer up this fall! I'm also loving the idea of the urban casual look for the fall. I'm looking forward to rocking my new wardrobe this fall!
