For the past 2 weeks, Laina has been asking to go see the Katy Perry movie.
I have to admit, part of me (no pun intended) wanted to see it too, but I questioned if it was appropriate for young kids. I read reviews and looked into the movie’s PG rating (which was for song lyrics- read full details at the end of this post) and decided it would be ok.
Today was the first day the movie was showing and when Laina heard the big news that we would be going to see it, she right away went to her dress up clothes and put on her Candyland dress– like Katy.
The theater handed out Katy Perry Movie posters and special hot pink 3D glasses – Laina was ecstatic.
The movie was a lot more documentary than I think my 3 year old anticipated, but she bopped around in her seat and sang along to the songs she knew all the same.
For me, I enjoyed all that documentary stuff.
I was one of the people who was rooting for Russel Brand and Katy Perry to work. I loved their story of -the good girl who turned the bad boy good. And though, they didn’t get into detail, the movie did showed Katy distraught on tour when she and Russel decided to call it quits– that part was sad.
But over all, the movie had a message that I thought was empowering for young girls– telling them its ok to be themselves and to not give up on their dreams. In the movie you can see how dedicated Katy is to her career, how hard she has worked, how far she has come and how upbeat and positive her outlook on life continues to be, despite bumps in the road. I walked away liking Katy Perry even more than I had before.
When we got home, Laina continued to prance around in her Candyland dress and dug up her pink Lalaloopsie wing. When Ryan came home from camp, she told him every detail she could remember (and in no particular order). She told him about the giant purple kitty that danced on stage with Katy, Kitty Perry. She told him about the songs, the costumes- and finally Ryan decided it was time to sit down for an official interview-
{{Updated: Someone asked me about what the language/content was in the movie that gave it a PG rating. It is for the lyrics- ie- in “Hot an Cold” she sings “You PMS like a Bitch”…very honestly, over the screaming crowds in the audience I think some people may not even hear it. The lyrics to the Peacock song. is as suggestive as it gets and thankfully, it is not my daughters favorite song.}}

I like Katy. My Hubby would leave me for her and I’m ok with that. LOL. I’m not a big fan of going to the theater for movies most of the time but, I know if I don’t see this in theaters I will watch for it to hit cable. I think its so cute that your daughter wore her candyland dress & came home to wear her wig!!
