Ordering pizza on a Friday, gathering around the TV and laughing (sometimes crying) while watching shows that the whole family truly looked forward week after week, was quite possibly one of the best parts of growing up as a kid in the 90’s. These sitcoms were a common thread that brought the family together and went on to become staples in all of our childhood memories– as did the actors who stared in them.
So naturally, last week when I had the opportunity to indulge in a little of that nostalgia at a Season 2 Premiere event for PopTV‘s Hollywood Darlings, starring Full House’s Jodie Sweetin, Step By Step’s Beverly Mitchell and Seventh Heaven’s Kristine Lakin– and meet and interview these ladies I grew up watching? There was no question, I was there!
If you’ve never watched, Hollywood Darlings– and you are a 90’s kid– you must, must, must check it out. The show is a hilarious scripted reality series following these childhood stars and friends as they navigate the ups and downs of life in Hollywood, and support one another through crazy social situations, relationships, and their careers.
It also gives a little sneak peek into the incredibly down to earth women and mothers that these once child-stars have grown up to be.
(For the record, I totally did not “fan-girl” out during the taking of the above photo…. #LIES #yeaItotallydid)
During the Q&A, all 3 stars were very candid about their parenting experiences, talking about things all Moms can relate with, like how crucial their “village” (or tribe) of mom-friends is for them maintain a sense of balance and sanity.
And when asked what advice they’d offer to young people looking to enter the business, Jodie Sweetin said something that I thought was solid life advice no matter what goals you’re trying to accomplish or where you’re looking to go in life.
She said:
“Get ready for a lot of “no”. (You have to) go into it being really secure with who you really are because everyone is going to want to tell you who you’re supposed to be, who you’re not supposed to be, what you’re supposed to do. You need to be really grounded because if you’re successful it can take you away from that, (and) if you’re not successful it can (also) take you away from that.” – Jody Sweetin
I know I’ve experienced and learned the truth of this myself, as I am sure we all have in our own way.
Knowing who you are and being confident in that knowledge, being ok with the “No’s because they bring you closer to the perfect “Yes”, isn’t easy but is ultimately the key to achieving our goals and feeling fulfilled in all we do.
It’s clear that all three of these “Hollywood Darlings”, are incredibly confident about who they are and the experiences that brought them to where they are in their lives today.
They’re neither afraid to be themselves nor afraid to laugh at themselves which is so refreshing– and for us 90’s kids? Watching their friendship and crazy adventures unfold in every episode of Hollywood Darlings, feels a lot like catching up with old friends.
Season 2 of Hollywood Darlings premiered April 18th.
