Continuing our conversation about simple ways to get creative with our summer wardrobe, today I have my last and final tip in this 3 part Mini {Style} Series.
To recap:
Tip #1 – Accessorize with a statement necklace
Tip #2- Belt It!
And last but certainly not least….
Stretching Your Summer Style Tip #3
Get Creative With Maxi’s
Maxi dresses and Maxi Skirts are more than meets the eye, you guys. They are can be worn a variety of ways and for that reason are my absolute summer style favorite. I will give you an example.
During our vacation in Oahu this past July, I wore this orange ombre tube maxi with some contrasting aqua accessories.
|Old Navy Ombre Tube Maxi Dress, Maternity $34, Non-maternity, $25| Layered tear drop beaded necklace, Charlotte Russe- $5 (Sold out)| Aqua gemstone layered braceletes, $8 (Sold out)|
*Note about the maternity maxi: If you are considering purchasing this dress, its worth noting that this particular dress seemed to run a bit on the small side. I am usually a medium, but from the first day I got this dress at around 18 weeks, the top was snug and it wasn’t because my boobage got bigger- believe me. I probably could have used a large.*Oh, and just for fun, I’m throwing in the stalker picture below that James took of ME (not the flowers), which totally explains why I end up doing a ton of selfies when I want to share an outfit or something- in case anyone was wondering.
Anyway, back to restyling the maxi.
The weather here has been a little on the chillier side this week, and I once again broke out this dress but paired it with a light weight cardigan while changing the length with a wide belt.
|Ivory 3/4 sleeve cardigan, Thyme Maternity, $49|
*Note About The Cardigan: If you are considering purchasing, though it is listed as ivory the color is definitely more on the beige side.
With a wider belt, I was able to fold up and hide some of the dress giving it a new mid-length maxi look. Wearing the belt under the cardigan helped mask this little trick.
This beige cardigan is the silkiest thing I’ve ever put on my body. It’s by Thyme Maternity and so in essence- yes, it was made for expecting Moms, but I will be keeping this in my closet for a long time to come. It’s the perfect light weight sweater for cool summer nights– or when dining out at a restaurant that is particularly generous with the air conditioning– which to me is practically every single one– I am ALWAYS cold.
The same can be done with maxi-skirts. Maxi skirts with thicker bands can be pulled up to create a tube maxi-dress. Accessorize it, belt it, throw a cardigan or jacket over it… play around with it- you have nothing to lose when you’re alone in front the mirror.
I had one last year that I got at TJ Maxx (aka- my happy place) that had a fold down band which was great and made it very versatile. Not sure why I didn’t keep it out this year, but sadly it is packed away with my non-maternity clothes.
