{ The Remix } Crazy Comfy Slouchy Tunic – 3 Ways

The ground hog may have not have seen his shadow. Or may be he did. It depends on which you consult, but one thing is for sure– we are thick in the trenches of these long, COLD winter months.

Its around this time that we all tend to find ourselves calling on the same favorites over and over again.

This can happen at the end of any season, really, but I find it especially true in winter.

It’s a case of the Wear-em-to-death’s.

We all have those in our closet, right?

Case in point: I must confess to having worn the hell out of this shirt and have absolutely NO intention of stopping.

Despite my friends and I all having our own personal style, our eye for beauty and fashion always intersects time and time again. It’s one of the things I love about our friendship.

And when I saw this slouchy color-blocked gem on my friend Amy, earlier this fall I instantly needed it in my life.

I mean, the stripes, the perfect drape-y looking pockets …just the perfect size for an iPhone( –Did I say that out loud?), the easy breezy cowl neck/hood and the softest cotton material ev-ah!

If wearing it 247 times is wrong I don’t want to be right.

So let’s explore stretching comfy favorites and finding ways to wear them all the damn time– like I… eh-hem.. I mean…you want to.

Winter Favorites– Three Ways….

The Basic Look– Comfy Cas(ual)

The straight forward approach.

It’s cute enough to feel dressed and comfy enough to feel like your in sweats.

And lets be honest, would it not be heaven on earth if all clothes felt like you were wearing sweats all day?

Pair it with a cute accessory– and bam! out the door you go!

When I am doing a lot of shuttling children around during the week on a cold winter day, these tend to be my go-to’s:

Slouchy tunic paired with these insanely comfortable textured faux leather leggings… (seriously, if I could gift them to each and every one of you, I would)

I can’t seem to find these exact leggings online (they are “Sacks” brand), but these are similar in appearance and 1/2 the price!

And ankle boots.

If you are on the hunt for great casual booties– these are my favorites. I especially love them with bare legs and a dress or skirt… but you know, east coast….winter.

Layer it up– Business Casual

One of the things I love about this shirt most is the drape-y cowl neck. Normally, it lays half in the front, half in the back, but paired with this basic grey dress from Old Navy, I pulled it all to the front and it kind of gives it a scarf-like look.

Unfortunately, with this bitter cold I haven’t gotten to wear this baby as much as I’d like to, but when you pair things that seem like they will ever work– sometimes the results surprise you.

Keeping the cowl neck draped in the front, I tucked it into a ponte skater skirt (again, from Old Navy… because their basics ROCK) for this edgier night-time look.

Perfect for concert-going or grabbing a drink with friends.

Thrill Of The Hunt: The Perfect Faux Fur Vest

As the temps drop, are you finding yourself crushing on the layering-goodness of cozy faux fur vests as much as I am?

Denim, leather, puffers– vests just seem to be everywhere this year and Faux-fur in particular, is quickly becoming a bit of a new obsession for this clothes horse.

Thing is, Faux Fur vests are tricky for me (and maybe for you too?). If you have curves or have broad shoulders, bulky faux-furs (no matter how cute they are), can tend to make you look wider. I know. I had one and hated it.

It’s got to be the perfect combo of texture, color and pattern to look right and although I’ve mostly come up empty, I’ve not yet given up.

This weekend, while James and I were perusing the Tanger Outelts in Atlantic City, I fell in love with one in the H&M store front window. “This is it!”, I thought. “This one will be mine”… however, sadly they only had one xs left.

James just text messaged me that he looked for it (on his own!) on his lunch hour in NY and they too were sold out.

AND what’s more? It’s sold out online as well.

Sigh.

Side note: Not to brag, but um… Am I the luckiest woman alive or what? He went shopping for me on his lunch- just because!… I mean, that’s love.

Forget the vest!… Ok, not completely– but you know what I mean.

So the hunt continues.

After much shopping around, I’m considering the vest below as a replacement dream and thought I would share for anyone who like me is on the market for a faux fur vest, but needs to be super selective.

It’s not completely fur, and it’s a bit more of an investment than the H&M vest– but with the mixed textures. asymmetrical patch work and over-all lack of bulkiness, this vest would definitely get more wear.

Celebrating Your Pregnancy and Your Bump Style

The experience of being pregnant is not only different for every woman, it’s also very different from one child to the next. Some women will say they feel more gorgeous than they ever have, while others will tell you they felt miserable and bloated.

With just 6 days left of my 3rd (and no doubt, final) pregnancy, I can tell you I have experienced all ends of that pregnancy spectrum.

With my first, I was retaining more water than the Hoover Dam… Which may or may not have had to do with my living on bread and Caesar dressing.

My second, pregnancy was better. I wasn’t retaining water at the rapid rate I was with the first – which was good enough for me! But I still spent 9 months feeling envious of the “cute pregnant women” and just over all frump-tastic.

Feeling self-concious about your growing pregnancy curves can really put a damper on the over all experience.

This time around I had a goal –to embrace the bump for better or for worse and allow myself to celebrate not only the anticipation of the baby, but living with the baby inside.

I wanted to be one of “those” women who I never understood, who felt radiant– and more importantly, I wanted to have documentation of it all, to remember waiting for that first kick, hormonal crying without a valid reason, as well as pictures of the growing curves.

Learning to love the bump

The thing I think we need to understand here, ladies is this…..

These 9 months are possibly the only time we’re encouraged to show off a big belly instead of trying to hide love handles. Instead of “Suck it in” people are saying “stick that belly out! “. Seriously. Think about that for a minute. It’s a beautiful, beautiful thing, my expecting friends.

So I did everything opposite. I kept active, ate healthier and celebrated this last pregnancy the way I wish I had with my previous two.

I had fun seeking out cute maternity styles, hiked in the gorgeous Red Wood Forest in San Francisco, accepted an opportunity to walk the cat walk at Lincoln Center… in a non-maternity dress and heels, had professional maternity pictures taken and I journaled along the way.

None of it came naturally at first…. but it quickly became a beautiful journey that I am so very thankful I had the chance to experience again– The funny thing? I gained 1/2 the weight I did with my first (Steering clear of italian bread drenched in Caesar dressing probably helped).

And while I’ve been spending the last 3 wks living in that inevitable land of back pain, hot flashes and Fred Flintstone toes– eagerly nesting and waiting to see this little one’s face and find out if it truly has the height of the basketball player I feel has taken over the entire length of my stomach…

For the first time, I think a small part of me may actually miss this bump when its gone.

Inside The Strut Moms Show At Lincoln Center + Look For Me Talking About My Bum In A Cottonelle TV Commercial {Squee!}

It’s now been over two weeks since the very surreal moment I walked the runway at Lincoln Center for Cottonelle and the RBaby Foundation. I promised some pics and some more info about my involvement with Cottonelle for this project.

And being that today is the launch of Cottonelle’s “Let’s Talk Bums” Fashion Week commercial on CBS (more on that below), which highlights the night and the experience of me and my fellow Cottonelle Mama’s – {squee!!}, I thought today was the perfect day to share some more!

The Cottonelle Mama’s Ready To Take On The Catwalk!

Glam me up!

Isn’t getting your hair styled the best thing ever? I recently got extensions put in my hair (which I’ll report more on once I’ve had them in for a full month), so I was loving the long loose curls the hair stylists were dolling up the Mom-models with.

The hair stylists were using the Sarah Potema Beach Waver that night, which is a curling iron that rotates and winds the hair with just a click of a button. I didn’t get to actually try it myself, but the process did go fast and the curls stayed put!Once hair and makeup was complete, I took a little sneak peek at the runway in all its glory.

And that’s when reality set in! …. Oh. My. God. This is real.

My shoes! O no! What shoes did they pick out? What if I can’t balance the belly? … What if the dress doesn’t fit!?! We were able to practice our strut before the show, so I raced back to get ready… cause I definitely need the practice. A

Although I did have to change my shoes after my test-walk, I’m happy to report it all worked out and I did not fall on my face.

I wore a cobalt blue Chiara Boni dress that was not maternity,but embraced the bump nicely.

The gorgeous rouching on one side makes it a dress that is flattering for all figures.

Sadly the $625 price tag? Made it something I had to return back to Bloomies.

Whomp, Whomp.

During the show, Cottonelle unvieled a one of a kind Cottonelle Couture dress, designed by and made completely out of toilet paper!

And let me tell you, the fab Cait Buchane ROCKED. IT….. along with her Cottonelle Wipes clutch.

It. Was. Awesome.

The experience was so empowering and I was honored to have teamed up with Cottonelle to be part of this incredible night of fashion and join these gorgeous ladies on the runway.

I was also SO very happy that both James and my mother were able to be there to experience it with me.

As an attendee of the star studded Fashion Week, their experience was much different than mine and I loved hearing about the fun the had spotting celebs both on the runway and in the crowd.

They spotted the Hilton Sisters, helped “Help Me Howard” take a picture, posed for a pic with former Yankee, Jorge Pasada, and my mother’s favorite Miami Housewife (twice … because the first one was blurry, so my Mom tracked her down again for a do-over. My mom kills me. ha )

And then when it was all over, my husband’s teenage dreams came true when he got to snap a pic with Melissa Joan Hart, which he immediately instagrammed with the caption “And, she explained it all” .

Seriously look at that grin below! He is hilarious.

So What About The Commercial???

During both the fitting and the Strut Moms Fashion Show, Cottonelle and CBS were documenting the model’s experience getting ready for the runway.

We spoke with Cottonelle Spokesperson, Cherry Healy, (whose British accent I am incredibly jealous of) about the Cottonelle Care Routine and shared our before and after thoughts on the show.

And TODAY, I’m excited to tell you… that commercial has begun airing on CBS!

My mother in law has already seen it during the CBS morning show today.

It will air two more times today, once during the Rachel Ray Show and again during the CBS 5 o’clock news.

Yes, I will be on National TV talk about my how I care for my derrière.

Just sayin– If you are a parent, or have ever changed a diaper in your life… you know what’s back there. Toilet paper is not enough, and what’s good for baby’s bum is good for mine. I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Statement Earrings

Statement necklaces remain my favorite but this year there will be a a lot of focus on bigger statement earrings. In lieu of a statement necklace, you may want to try Chandelier earrings, ear-cuffs or dangly chains.

These eye catching earrings are great for up-do’s and shorter hair styles– but remember statement pieces are an either or thing. Statement necklaces paired with statement earrings can be a bit much.

Over The Knee Boots

Boots are my weakness, you guys! Next to fall leaves, crisp chilly air and a Vente Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks (hold the whip, please), boots may just be my favorite part of fall.

My 18 year old sister calls her over the knee boots her “Confidence Boots’, and really? Don’t all boots posses that power when they are “the right” boot for you?

If you have legs for days, ROCK ON! Over the knee boots are HOT!

For those of us that are thigh conscious, over the knee boots can be tricky because what you wear beneath the boot can “shorten” the appearance of your leg- and draw attention to your thigh area.

So does that mean we can’t wear them if we don’t have the legs of a Victoria Secret model? Ummm… absolutely not! If you find a pair that calls to you, channel that confidence and pair them up with matching leggings to make your legs appear longer and less “broken up”.
