Glasses and contacts have been part of my daily routine since I was in the fourth grade– that is a loooong time, you guys! To be honest, I’ve grown to love my glasses over the years and have fun picking out new frames– but contacts on the other hand? They are not my friend.
In addition to dealing with common annoyances of having a contacts– like having one fall out in the middle of the day, tear in your eye and walking around with blurred vision because of makeup transferring to them, they put a serious, SERIOUS damper on my wedding day when I woke up with a cornea infection due to contact irritation and bacteria– yep. Pretty gross, and painful… and if we are being totally honest, ugly (see my video at the end of the post for more details and pictures– it is a story for the books, you guys! Entertaining now but not then).
After my wedding day, when I finally found out that it was a cornea infection (because I was pretty convinced it was a severe case of pink eye), my father who had gotten Lasik 10 years earlier insisted I go for a consultation– and I did but unfortunately the infection was still healing and I wasn’t a candidate. I never went back for another consultation and dealt with chronic eye infections for years– light sensitivity, pain… not fun.
Fast forward to 2018, Eyecare 20/20 located here in East Hanover, New Jersey contacted me to partner for Lasik eye surgery with Dr. Silverman. I told them about my first consultation ad how I was worried I may have had damage from the eye infections and wouldn’t be a candidate and their team encouraged me to go ahead with my consultation. They said even if I wasn’t a candidate for Lasik, there was a chance I would be a candidate for PRK which give the same results (info on PRK here).
Well, turns out I was a Lasik candidate and I was over the moon!!
I am now 3 weeks post surgery and my vision is truly incredible. The surgery had me seeing pretty much 20/20 in just 10 short minutes! Recovery was less than a day. I even drove myself to my next day follow up! I had some initial redness after the surgery that has completely healed without ever being painful and not having to deal with contacts?!? It is for sure life changing.
You can see a recap of my insta-stories documenting it all on my Instagram highlights and I answer a lot of the questions I’ve been asked about my experience in the video below.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to let me know! I am happy to fill you in on any of my personal experience with the surgery and will continue to share more info on my Lasik journey in the upcoming weeks.
So stay tuned!
